The Sno-Derby for Scouting was conceived during my final year at the Daniel Webster Council. It was a daylong community and family-oriented winter sports event to raise awareness and financial support for Scouting in New Hampshire. Taking advantage of the beautiful setting of the Griswold Scout Reservation in the state’s Lakes Region, the event was comprised of a snowmobile radar run for multiple classes, an ice fishing derby and other winter-related events.
The event was promoted to the general public, the 10,000+ families involved with Scouting in New Hampshire at the time, and to snowmobile clubs throughout the state. Promotion included a table at a regional hunting and fishing expo, advertising through the statewide snowmobile association's magazine and other print outlets, and social media.
