Staff Development

staff750

I oversee a dynamic, diverse and talented staff of 16 commissioned professionals serving 12 districts, as well as more than 40 part-time program specialists serving nearly 60 after-school (ScoutReach) units.

Field staff are given regular opportunities for career development and training, attending at least one national BSA course or similar training every year. Additionally, the field staff participates in monthly stand-alone training sessions I termed the "EggsChange," where we gather for breakfast and have a staff member or guest facilitate a timely topic. Subjects have included managing stress, volunteer on-boarding, prioritization, effective communication, utilizing a district nominating committee, and more.

"Wildly Important Goals"

I organized the 2018 staff planning conference around the principles outlined in The 4 Disciplines of Execution® (4DX). Using the council strategic plan as a guide, two “Wildly Important Goals” (WIGs) were developed around revenue generation and growing volunteer membership. Staff provided input into developing lead measures that would be predictive of success and influence successful goal attainment. Lag and lead measure reports are sent out weekly and reviewed in “WIG” meetings by the field team. Priorities are clear and production and time management have improved.
